This short course explores the process for applying a gender lens to your work, including a formal process for identifying gender inequality in the workplace through critical thinking and analysis.

This short course explores the impact of gender inequality and the approaches that can be taken to address gendered norms, practices and structures by applying a gender lens to your work. The short course will walk you through the process required to critically reflect with a gender lens and conduct a gender analysis.

On completion of this Course you will be able to: 

  • Describe the correlation between gender and health
  • Explain the compounding impact of gender inequality and other forms of inequality and discrimination including race/sexual orientation/age/ability/class
  • Identify gendered norms and structures
  • Articulate benefits of different gendered approaches, including gender-sensitive, gender-specific and gender-transformative approaches
  • Apply critical thinking with a gender equity lens
  • Conduct a gender analysis for solutions on gender inequity


This short course has three modules followed by a final assessment.

Time and assessment

This short course will take approximately one and half hours to complete.

There are a number of practice activities at the end of each module to help you check your knowledge.

You will be assessed at the end of the course. For this final assessment, you have an unlimited number of attempts, but you must score 80% to complete this course.

On completion of this course a digital badge will be issued. A digital badge is an authenticated, online representation of the knowledge acquired and can be shared via a range of online platforms.

This Microcredential is suitable for any person who seeks an understanding and awareness of gender equity and the prevention of violence in the workplace.

This course was originally developed in 2018 in conjunction with RMIT University.
