This workshop explores the key theoretical approaches and practice frameworks that guide primary prevention evaluation, supporting you to reflect on your own practice and experience. It will help build your skills and confidence to undertake effective monitoring and evaluation as part of primary prevention of gender-based violence and family violence initiatives. Throughout this workshop you will be supported to unpack some of the key challenges to putting evaluation and monitoring into practice and will work with other experienced practitioners to explore opportunities to overcome these challenges.

 On completion of this workshop you will: 

  • have built on your existing monitoring and evaluation knowledge and practice experience in a shared learning space amongst your peers. 
  • have increased your understanding of the current prevention of gender-based violence evaluation context 
  • have increased your understanding of good practice approaches to prevention of gender-based violence evaluation 
  • feel greater confidence to address some of the challenges and opportunities of designing and implementing effective primary prevention evaluation, including developing indicators; data collection methods and analysis; and sharing learnings and dissemination of findings. 

Note: While an intersectional lens has been embedded across this training, there is also a is also a section specifically focusing on intersectional practice. 

Workshop Structure  

  • In person: 7 hour in-person session  
  • Online: 2 x 3 hour interactive sessions delivered across two days via zoom
  • Issued a certificate upon completion  

No assessment required for this workshop, but active engagement is expected from participants.  

Each delivery is capped at 20 participants. 

Target audience 

This workshop is for primary prevention of gender-based violence and gender equality practitioners including women’s health services, community organisations, community health services, local and state government, and sports, media and education settings. 

 Prerequisite knowledge 

Participants are required to have a strong understanding of gender-based violence, primary prevention, Change the Story, the causes/drivers of violence against women as this content will not be covered in the workshop. Participants are also expected to be familiar with the concept of intersectionality.
